History of the Sacred Heart Netball Club
Sacred Heart Netball Club is one of the founding members of netball in Diamond Creek. Started by a few parents and teachers from the Sacred Heart primary school the club quickly grew and not long after was formally incorporated in 1989. While we are no longer affiliated with the school, we are proud of our history and roots, hence retaining our name, colours and most importantly our culture and values. We continue to be an inclusive club with a family friendly environment, “many schools, ONE heart”, We are passionate about our club and netball development in a fun environment.
We were proud to celebrate our 30 year anniversary in 2019 with a gala ball. It was attended by past and present families as well as our local business community who has continued to support us over many years. Our special guest was past player Kate Moloney, Australian Diamond and Melbourne Vixens captain. Kate is very generous with her time to our club and has been over many years. We also designed and used a special 30 year anniversary logo and introduced a 30 year celebration training and match day Tshirt worn by our coaches and players today.
Some history of the origins of the SHNC uniform:
The red and white originated from Sacred Heart primary school sport uniform at the time, i.e. red skirt, white tshirt.
In 2009 it was replaced with a club polo top and reversible bibs still with plain red skirt. In 2010 we had a red club zip up jacket. In 2011 we introduced the club hoodie. In 2012, the club ran a think tank to put together the design of the dresses still worn today. We were the first club in the Association to design and wear the current modern dress with velcro bibs.

Weekly Player of the Day
All our players are MVPs in their own way. However, each week we recognise the efforts and achievements of one player from each team. The player of the day award can be given for outstanding performance, putting a training skill into action, listening and acting on coaches’ feedback, resilience or getting their first goal! We are thankful to the local businesses that support these awards.
10 Year Award
In 2012 we introduced a recognition award for players who have given 10 years of loyalty and commitment to our club. This is a significant achievement to commence in U9s and continue with the club consistently through to U17/19s. We are proud of the number of players achieving this award as a recognition of the passion within our club. It is a testament to the culture of our club and the lasting friendships made.
Heart of Hearts
Our club cannot run without our awesome volunteers. We are fortunate to have many passionate members who contribute in many ways from Committee roles, coaches and team managers. This prestigious award recognises those who have contributed to our club in a significant capacity over many years. It is not given out every year, to date we have had 4 recipients of the award since its introduction: Helen Desmond, Carol Towers, Maree Major, Lyndal Powers.

President, Lori Motschall
With three daughters playing (and loving) netball, Lori joined Sacred Heart as a parent in 2019 when her eldest, Penny, started in the U9s, followed by Erica in 2021 and April in 2024. Combining her love of netball, being involved in her children’s sport and organisational skills, Lori joined the Committee in 2022 and became the Registration Coordinator in 2023. When needed, Lori has also helped with coaching, coaching the U11s in 2023 and U9s in 2024. Lori has stepped into the role of President for 2025.
Vice President, Jackie Taylor
Jackie joined the club in 2014 as a parent and coach to support her eldest daughter, Catherine.
With over 35 years of coaching and playing experience Jackie joined the Committee in 2018 in a more formal capacity as president, to share her passion for netball development and keep girls in sport through the club and the friendships they make. Now with her youngest daughter Samantha in our U13 age group she continues to contribute her knowledge and is our Vice President for 2025. Jackie loves the inclusive community at SHNC whether girls want to play socially or supporting them through to representative levels as both her daughters have pursued.
Secretary, Sarah Healy
Sarah Healy joined the club in 2017 with her 7-year-old daughter Lexi who played for a couple of years before pursuing other sports. During these years Lexi made many new friends and Sarah supported the club as a team manager. Sarah has played netball for over 30 years and has a strong passion for the game.
Sarah and Lexi returned to the club at the start of 2023 to see many familiar faces who were playing for SHNC back in 2017.
In 2024 Sarah joined the SHNC Committee in the role of Club Secretary. Sarah loves watching the games, supporting from the sidelines as well as watching the girl’s skills and friendships develop throughout the season.
Treasurer, Janelle Duggan
With an interest in numbers Janelle joined the committee in 2022 to take the position of the Treasurer for our club. She is aware that all community sport runs on volunteers and many hands make light work. She enjoys the fun side of the committee, helping organise end of season and end of year functions to celebrate all players and volunteers.
Team and coach coordinator, Janelle Pearce
Janelle, joined the club in 2018 after her eldest daughter Tess joined following getting a taste for netball at school. Tess started off with net set go and decided to continue playing in competition. Her little sister soon followed in her footsteps and also plays for Sacred Heart Netball Club. As a family spending a lot of time on the courts, Janelle decided to join the committee and assist with coaching and team coordination roles. Janelle assists coaching our U9 and U11 teams thriving on seeing the players incorporating a drill into their game play.
She also loves seeing the players develop and improve over their season and seeing the older players with experience helping out our youngest players with their skills. As a small club, Janelle loves knowing everyone’s names and families. Janelle wouldn’t have it any other way, but to be at the netball courts with her family and friends each Saturday morning!
